A Strong Start
“From day one, I knew I was in the right place. The connection during my interview was immediate, and that feeling has only grown stronger,” Syb shares. His background in MBO Technical Engineering and a brief period in HBO Mechanical Engineering gave him a solid foundation, but the real learning began at FIB. “I had to quickly adapt to the fast-paced nature of the work. The work preparation office is a crucial link between engineering and production, requiring constant coordination, forward-thinking, and decisive action.”
His day starts with a walk through the factory. “I check the progress of ongoing projects and see where I can step in. Sometimes that means advancing urgent orders, tracking down missing components, or optimizing processes. No two days are the same, and that keeps things interesting.”
A high-pressure challenge
One of Syb’s first challenges was a major project in the Netherlands which involved titanium piping—a material that demands precision and expertise. “This was a true test. We had to manufacture titanium grade 2 and grade 7 piping based on external isometric drawings.
With tight deadlines and complex logistics, the margin for error was slim. “Everything had to be right the first time. We had to work at full speed while maintaining absolute accuracy. The pressure was high, but that’s what made it such a valuable learning experience. It pushed us to plan smarter, communicate better, and work as a team.”
Learning through experience
At FIB Technologies, growth happens by doing. “One of the best things about working here is the openness to learning. If you’re curious and proactive, you can develop fast,” says Syb. “I’ve learned how important it is to think ahead. Having the right materials and information available at the right time prevents a lot of issues before they happen.”
A standout moment for Syb? “There was a time when we expected an external supplier to take care of a critical part of a project, but at the last minute, we had to take it on ourselves. We adjusted quickly, revised our planning, and still delivered a high-quality result. It showed me how flexible and solutions-driven we are as a team.”
Beyond work: Passion for engineering and adventure
Syb’s drive to figure things out doesn’t stop at work. “I’ve always been passionate about cars. When I was 17, I bought a 1984 Jaguar XJ6. Driving it, working on it, understanding how it all fits together—that’s what I love. Nowadays, I drive a Renault Twingo—more practical, sure, but I still have my eye on another Jaguar in the future.”
Golf is another hobby that keeps him engaged. “I got into it through a friend and mostly play when the weather is good. It’s a great way to reset.” And then there’s fitness. “It helps me stay sharp after a long day at work.”
The future: Moving forward
Syb is looking ahead with confidence. “I want to grow further in supply chain management and process optimization. One of the best things about FIB is the space to develop yourself. Right now, I’m working on the Vortex Clusters and will soon be supporting new projects for PROENERGY—two very different challenges, but that’s exactly what makes it exciting.”
His advice for new employees? “Be curious, ask questions, and get involved. Collaboration is key here. When you work together and think ahead, you can make a real impact.”
